First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... It's a new repo. My original had the radio opening bunged up so I don't want to use it. Thanks for the suggestions. One thought I had was to get two metal pieces shapped like the opening will be, of the "right size" or just a bit smaller then the final opening, and bolt them on the front and back with a couple holes thru the part that will be gone when it's cut out. And then use it as a guide to cut the long top and bottom edge. Based on past experiance I'm particularly worried that the straight edges won't be straight when I'm done.

Is this a "new used" or one of the new repo panels? My car had a non-AC dash panel that was cut out for the center vent. They seem to be identical except for the vent hole. After having done similar modifications to other cars, I would suggest: 1. Have it out of the car 2. Have someone to help 3. Mark your opening carefully 4. drill a small hole to start and use a hacksaw blade or coping saw blade to cut the opening SMALLER than you actually need. (Don't use a Saber Saw, you'll break the dash.) 5. Support the back side well so you don't crack or break it. 6. Use a small block of wood and a small clamp around the back edges of your opening and then finish it to size with a good fine tooth file. The block of wood will both support the edge and help to give you a nice straight edge. Lee >> . >>> I have a new dash (1969) and I need to cut the opening in it for the >>> center AC vent.
