How's the quality on the repos?
Sounds like the metal should work fine like that. You just need something that will work as a straight-edge.
I just don't like the raw edge that's left after cutting the hole.

It's a new repo. My original had the radio opening bunged up so I don't want to use it. Thanks for the suggestions. One thought I had was to get two metal pieces shapped like the opening will be, of the "right size" or just a bit smaller then the final opening, and bolt them on the front and back with a couple holes thru the part that will be gone when it's cut out. And then use it as a guide to cut the long top and bottom edge. Based on past experiance I'm particularly worried that the straight edges won't be straight when I'm done.
