How does your IM client function? When I close the buddy list, it doesn't disconnect from the server ... it just closes the buddy list. And if you want a more common example: When I close a folder window, it doesn't unmount the drive. Basically, what I'm saying is that close means "close," not "close and disconnect," and certainly not "close, disconnect, and never automatically open on this page again." And your definition of "minimize" is off, too: A minimized window still has some presence of its own - say, on the taskbar. "Minimizing" the Firebug console just makes it disappear completely.
