Hi Jim

Glad to see you are an MCSE. I have hired many of those and they are of
great value. I am now back home in VE3 land, so I will set it up in my test
lab and see if I can get control of it. (You seem to be missing Dstar from
your list of supported ham things! :) )

I have to rerun some cables here to my actual local station which is an XP
box. The noise level here is pretty high, so I also hope to get my K9AY
antenna built here (in Toronto). My long term goal is to set the SDR3000 up
at my remote base and replace the TS480 that is up there.

Also, can you explain why some drivers are supposed to be digitally signed
don't show up as digitally signed. Is there some service or Verisign type
of signature that might be missing on my system?

Thanks all.. Mike VA3MW

Hi Mike,

What I see is the MIDI Drivers are not loading. This can be checked under
Devices and Printers with the Flex-Radio plugged in an turned on. You should
have two Flex MIDI Drivers and one other Flex Driver. The other driver
software can load and show the Flex connected, but not run the radio, as the
MIDI Drivers are not loaded. Also, there is often a event entry showing the
driver could not load.

If this is the case, I would first check that the 1394a Driver for VISTA is
of the legacy Version. It can be changed via the update function selecting
manual install options.

I have had two Vista updates that changed the 1394a driver away from the
legacy driver. I have not been able to trace the direct reason, but have
found that the updates are related to the MS09-047 security patch.

I hope this helps.

Jerry

I clearly understand what you are saying. I use computers every day and
have many dedicated for specific purposes. I also work with a team that
provide real time sport results to television. Lots of our tools use
Firewire and lots use IP communication (especially in World Cup Ski Racing).
I work with windows/linux, etc. every day with real time applications.

My goal on this project was to be able to take my 3K with me and have it
function on the laptop I take on the road. My latency numbers/graph are
always in the green. It is not a cpu load issue. It is likely due to the
hardware interface into OS.

However, the problem is that the box worked great for 1 week. Then, for
some 'strange' OS reason, the Firewire driver actually sees the radio.
Great. But the PowerSDR does not see the radio. Why????

For those of you with a logical mind, the fact that the 3K is seen by the
driver software tells me that the hardware is not the issue. So, that
leaves PowerSDR as the culprit.

So, someone tell me how to debug it. Are there logs that show the
communication successes and failures. I don't want guessing. I want facts.
I don't want to waste my time guessing on how to fix it. I need the tools
to understand the failure.

So, please, don't blame the OS or the build of PowerSDR unless you have the
facts.

Mike, it seems to me that you are complaining about the radio because
the computer has faults. if you see the advantages of your 3000, you
might want to consider dedicating a computer specifically to it and
not use that computer for other purposes, just as you might have
purchased a speaker for a legacy rig and not expected to use it with
your HiFi stereo.

I shopped for a PC to dedicate specifically to my 5000a. I never
considered it as a general-purpose computer for other household needs
(I have others for that).

It has all the features I need to run current flex software very well
and it cost about the same as the optional second rx I added to my
radio order. It can sit here and just service the radio for many
years - it runs XP Pro and newer op sys features will not be needed
for PowerSDR or my other ham programs (also running on it) for a LONG time.

I think of it as a 5000a accessory just as if it was an ATU or other
radio option, not a household computer.

One of the members of this list assembles and sells tweaked
inexpensive computers that are apparently stable and work well with
PowerSDR.
