I have also found that when the driver sees the radio, its just an indicator that enough traffic is able to pass thru the firewire cable to talk with the driver configurator. Having it work in a full data stream mode (and PowerSDR is very sensitive to any real data gaps) is another thing. You might try a different firewire cable or maybe some of the knuckle-buster toroids on each end.
