Filed it away. But not sure of the purpose of this mode. It'd seem that pitch control should just hold the selected pitch angle, with the exception of leveling off gradually when a preset altitude is reached. FlightGear's current autopilot (that uses pitch to maintain max climb) would be very uncomfortable to ride in...even if it was smoothed. I suppose one advantage of a mode like you describe would be to prevent stalls even if the crew falls asleep.
