If this is true then there is no way we can maintain a 2D overlay,
library which is what the existing HUD code is, with Andy's changes

So the question is "Is someone going to write a 3D HUD package", 
or am I going to have to rewrite a 2D overlay engine again.

My guess is that whoever works on implementing a true 3D HUD
would be better off starting with a new OO design much like the Panel
code rather then kludging YAN hack onto the aged 2D hacks that
comprise the existing 2D HUD code which BTW is no where near
as bad as Andy's colorful language makes it out to be
