This is really going to be a nice one. > < nit > > It is hard to tell but it almost looks as if there is > something going on with the normals on the wing > panels. ie the shaddowing doesn't quite seem > consistant with that on the fusalage. > > FWIW - these same kind of anomalies seem to > appear on most of the AC3D model esp on the flaps. > > don't know if this is from the modeller or PLIB loader > though > < /nit > I'd guess that there are 2 sided polys in there. Look at the whiteness on the wing root (in the shaded area) and what should be the shaded side of the tail here: http://www.a1.nl/~ehofman/fgfs/gallery/fokker/002.jpg Sometimes if the normals are flipped (backwards) this will occur and it can be difficult to tell if you are looking at the surfaces inside out or not. The main problem with the other models (like my 747) is the flaps need to have the top and bottom surfaces in separate objects so that plib doesn't try to smooth around the edge. This could be called a modeler's problem, but for most situations this could be fixed in plib. Since most flaps are pretty flat, then smooth shading is not necessary on the flaps. As I mentioned before it might be a good idea for us to just reimplement the ac3d loader in simgear and fix it up the way we want for FlightGear (which in some cases might conflict with the plib behavior).
