I have narrowed the problem down to the triangulation.  The stripify function
is somehow screwing up the ordering of vertices and is creating triangles that
use vertices that originate on two completely different polygons.

It may be possible to find the bug in the stripifying or we could implement
our own normal generator in simgear.

It might be worth a lot to try to implement the NVidia stripifier instead: http://www.geocrawler.com/mail/msg.php3?msg_id=4843131&list=1868

Suggestions as to which direction we should go?  I'm kind of leaning toward
seeing if we can write a better normal generator in simgear and then offer it
to plib later.

I think it would be easier in the en to modify plib directly.
