Not very helpful but I think you are correct about this being the 
'same issue'

FWIW I never did figure out exactly what was causing this but IIRC 
this was a problem even when I implemented the TR view but was 
not an issue for me as I was only interested in the '2D' panel' if any 
when not in exterior view mode.
