(still trying to collect together all the feedback on this, so apologies if this is a bit confused, but:) Doesn't the animations system have a textranslate node as well? As far as I can see, the features the animation system is missing compared to the 2D panels is cropped textures (but maybe I've overlooked it?) and text, but there seems to be some other issues with the 2D text system, because, for example, Syd seems to use a sliding, cropped number texture for each digit in favour of an actual text +chunks node.
