*DOH* I just realized the AI menu does exist. I must've missed it...

I think that's just overcomplicating things, and in the sense, the
jetways aren't "true" AI.

I'm fine with the current preferences.xml approach, although it seems
changing the setting in-sim does not last across sessions- how would I
change that?

I think so, I'm not sure how much of a performance benefit they'll be though.
