That usually happens in Blender when you don't "Apply scale and rotation"
(Ctrl-A) after mirroring. It still looks normal in Blender, but the
export is screwed up. I consider that a mis-feature, but somebody must
think it's useful.  ;-)
Of course, the normals have to point in the right direction, too.

I think all core developers would mind. CVS/data only contains
generic objects, and objects that are in the two 1x1 degree
chunks of the default scenery. The NZ airport building doesn't
belong in either group. At the moment, such objects should be
submitted to the object DB: http://fgfsdb.stockill.org/
Sooner or later they'll then be made available in regular
scenery downloads from flightgear.org. Unfortunately, the syncing
seems to be done only every 10 years or something. (I'd prefer
at least once per month.)
