FG's scenery is already made from the V2 (corrected) 3 arcsec srtm data - the 
30 arcsec data is lower resolution so I doubt that you'd see much improvement 
regarding topology by using that.  There are often null areas in the srtm 
data and I imagine that Curt has written something to fill these but in hilly 
or mountainous regions you might get some improvement from hand-fixing them.

There might also be some problems regarding vertex counts unless you split 
your terrain down into smaller tiles - as is done with FG's terrain - see the 
recent thread about max polygon counts.
