HUH, SAY WHAT? youself. If you are tired of explaining to us how ATA works, then stop. Of course, you would probably never post anything again.
I love poeple who rather than send a private email asking for clarification try to belittle people on public posts. Make them feel superior I assume.
Sorry if I offended anyone.
However...
Let me explain...
I'm out here in the vast wasteland of the industry these days. I don't attend T13 meetings but I see and hear of all kinds of comments that make me think many people have forgotten how PATA works. I'm not sure why this is so. But let me make a few guesses:
a) Everyone is busy trying to make SATA work - they don't have time for PATA anymore.
b) There are many new people involved that never worked on PATA.
c) As I discovered a few years ago, T13 really doesn't do much any more except "rubber stamp" the results of "secret society" meetings (meeting held under one or more NDAs). The result is many things that fail to maintain the traditions or even the basic rules of ATA.
So... I am shocked when I read some of the things that are proposed. Perhaps I should not be... But when I see people say things that are a direct violation of the PATA IOR-/IOW- response tables or the ATA/ATAPI reset/command protocols I wonder what is going on. Are there "secret societies" out there that are making serious proposals to change PATA? Or did the proposer just forget to say the proposal is for SATA only?
Sorry, but when someone proposes something or says something that is clearly in conflict with ATA/ATAPI I'm am going to say something - and the more often I have to say these kinds of things the less "politically correct" I get - sorry - must be old age.
