IMO, an auto-attendant reply is worse than no reply. Of course, it does
tell you that
your e-mail message was received. But when there is no follow-up response
(and
there never is), it tells me that they are hiding, playing dead, etc. and
that I am not
important. This is not just true of Protel; for every auto-attendant system
I have ever
encountered this was the case.

responsiveness and caring.
>From the perspective of the sender, it gives the impression "you are not
important enough to warrant
a real response".
I rank it up there with voice menuing systems that say "Your call is
important to us, so please stay on
the line for the next available representative". If my call was really that
important to them, they would have
more staff to take my call without waiting.
