>>...I first started off with the Company NameCharm & Happy's "Clowns 4 >>All".Then ..... I created ... Clowns4all.com but then client didn't >>understand << Using different names is good but, if not done properly, can work against you. In Carmen's example ...the solution would be to include the 'Charm & Happy' vizual branding very strongly with 'Clowns 4 All'.
In time, this could be reduced to a less prominent role. Clients may NOT understand ... but the solution to that is to not just do it, but to properly announce it like a product launch. Send emails to your list over time and build anticipation and expectation. ....you can't just let it creep in .....Big it up >>.... Now, I have many other names that just forward to different pages for >>particular needs like the aPhotoButton.com and so on. Not sure what you mean by forwarding to differen pages. Does this mean that they are on the one domain, but within a folder of your core domain and the url points to that, cloaked? If so, whilst on the surface there is nothing wrong with this from a usability point of view, the search engines don't like certain forwarding like this and you'll get penalized for claoked redirects and they won't list you anywhere near so highly (if they follow the redirect at all). >> PRICING AGAINST SELF.- When I had both pages as separate sites, I did get >> people who would call twice, then get irritated thinking we were trying to >> FOOL them into hiring US. Yes, that's not good. Separate pages should have separate content. Clarity. That doesn't mean one web site. On the contrary I believe you should have many .... but they all have a purpose. A separate product should, must, have its own site. Nothing to stop you selling this from another site also ... but it would be a brief mantion and they can click through for a full sales page on the product. There is alsop a massive problem with having two sites the same. Google and others penalize for duplicate content. There are good beneficial reasons for this (too much to go into here). >> That stopped real fast. So now I still have a whole bunch of work to do on >> my site, mostly clean up stuff and easier navigation, but now most potential >> clients realize that CharmandHappy is Clowns4all. Which suggests that Clown4All is the umbrella name and CaH part of it. A good way to do this is to have a personal site, your name or trading name, and then have satelite sites coming off that, one for each new product / service. Then, employ a mesh of cross linking to build 'link juice' benefits. >> On the other hand, if she offered a DIFFERENT phone numberfor each site and >> service offered, she CAN be her own competition. This would soon put people off unless thge sites were target at different markets and the cghances of anyone seeing both is slim. >> One site can be her elite services offered. Another site can be the budget >> rate site without compromising. Don't fret on this idea. There are a few >> other very successful entertainment companies who also do this. Some of you >> know who. There's no problem with that ... but it does bring masive problems and can lead to a loss in work. For a start, the sites must be very different. Well, they appeal to different markets who need to be sold to in very different ways, so they would be. I have different sites for specialist services, but I certainly don't link to them from the other sites. But I also have specialist services I do link to, if the same market is within my target niches. >> Did you know that several TAXI companies use this same idea. They list >> different company names and phone numbers in thephone book. They have >> slightly varying rates. Yet, you are actually calling the same company. Yes, and financial (loan) companies, TV aerial specialists, car hire, household builders and services ... one company can flood a few pages in directories this way. I'm still mystified by these sites ..... John John Gordon Disappearing Nightly!
