Just to keep this on-topic to the FreeDOS AI policy discussion: Remember, the scope is for programs that get installed as part of a "plain DOS" install. That means the parts that reproduce classic DOS, plus a few other things like the package manager.
Stuff in other package groups is not in scope. The reason for this is that FreeDOS is a *distribution* that collects many packages from different sources. We don't have any input into the developer policies for third-party stuff that we happen to include. But we can (and should) control what happens in the core parts of FreeDOS. Although if we did find a third-party app was developed using AI, I imagine we would talk about it here. And just because something is written by AI doesn't mean it's completely uninteresting. A few weeks ago, someone shared a new BASIC compiler for DOS on the Facebook group. BASCOMP is "a single-pass self-compiling BASIC compiler for DOS, targetting 8086/8088 and size optimized COM files as output." They used AI to help write it, but I thought it was interesting, and I played around with it to see what it could do (and I shared a note about it on freedos-devel and on the website). In theory, we *could* decide to include this in the FreeDOS distribution; it's not part of a "plain DOS" install, so that would not violate the "no AI" policy we're discussing in this thread. (But as a practical matter, there are other BASICs so I don't see that we would prefer an AI-written BASIC over the other BASICs we include.)
