Well, let's have a look at the tests I recall:
Processor OS SysLoad Scale Worked
EV67 Debian/sid low 1x1 +
EV67 Debian/sid low 2x2 +
EV67 Debian/sid low 5x6 -
Sparc32 Solaris low 2x2 +
Sparc32 Solaris high 2x2 -
Sparc32 Solaris med 1x1 +
(Haven't tested any games on anything else lately). Those are too few tests
for a complete empirical analysis, but we're not trying to construct demographic
figures here anyway; I just want to explain why my stomach is telling me that
this might be because of sound cues being missed. Worse, it's absolutely
possible that the games themselves were "buggy" and expected the cues to be
present separately from each other. This worked nicely on single-tasking
systems where their hand-optimized(?) interpreter was running, but context
switching in multi-tasking OSses isn't quite as predictable as Int 8 in single-
tasking PCs...
If this is the case, we'll have to work around it somehow. Agh.
llap,
Christoph
