If you buying a card, just buy one of the PVR cards... Rob promises negligle CPU load and excellent quality. And only twice as expensive! :)
Indeed. I just did a little test recording with Freevo. Top tells me that freevo (record_server) is taking up between 0.3 and 1 % cpu. Mind you this is on an Athlon 2100+ but I am also doing too much work in the ivtv_record plugin.
Yes, the card is more expensive but if you are serious about having a good PVR it is a good buy. The quality is awesome. :)
