I don't have the setup to compare for myself -- but it seems there must 
be *some* sort of sacrifice...  Is the quality significantly better with 
ffmpeg, or is the other program simply that much more efficient?

(I'm recalling when I used to encode everything in mpeg-1 because I only 
had macintosh computers...  There were several options for encoding into 
MPG, but it was always choosing quality or speed.  Is this different 
now?  Or is the difference insignificant?)
