In my experience using ffmpeg (the program) is problematic and it has a/v sync issues. Mp1e however, is pretty solid in that respect and I have never had any problems (at all) with it.



We've also tried it before (Thomas has even written some code which may still be in CVS) and it works with a simple wrapper.

Yes, it is in CVS and actively being worked on. The pyshift module is made to run an external command to get an mpeg stream. Mp1e is great for this because it writes the stream to stdout.
