Well, I have a very interesting read for everyone on this list :
First I received a mail about ProVSD. I then asked : "Is ProVSD the continuation of FreeVSD or a completely new product rewritten from scratch ?" The reply was : "ProVSD is a new product but it is not rewritten from scratch but is the commercial version of freeVSD. freeVSD was open source and since then we have made an enormous amount of modifications to VSD, now ProVSD. It has a lot more functionality and expandability than freeVSD and all information regarding the latest release can be found on our new website www.idaya.com" My reply : "Since freeVSD was released as GPL, where can I obtain the source code for ProVSD ?" Reply from Idaya : "As ProVSD has now been launched commercially, it is no longer under the GPL code. We now own the source and it is closed I am afraid. Apologies if this has caused any inconvenience." And finally my reply : "Code that has been released as GPL, can never be released as closed source later. Therefor, you are legally obliged to release the code. Additionally, you don't own the full source of freeVSD. Part of the source code was written by non-Idaya-employees. The code is owned by their original creators and released underl GPL by them. As a result, you can't charge money for that code, nor can you make it closed source." Anyone want to file a complaint at the Free Software Foundation for violation of GPL ?
