Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I checked my version for the
F5D7010 Belkin card. It is 3000uk. What I did then is
I went to www.belkin.com, and downloaded a manual. Not much use - it
is for Windows. I also downloaded and installed a driver for the Mac I
found there, f5d7010_10-3. (I am running Mac OS X 10.4.9.) But I
still get the message that Airport power is off, and that No airport
hardware is found.

I have rethought what the problem is. I used to have a working wifi
card in the slot, but my Pismo fell off a table, the edge of the card
got caught on the way down and it broke. I now suspect that this
damaged the slot as well, and when I put the Belkin card in the slot,
it is just not making contact properly. Perhaps I would do better to
get something that plugs into a USB port. How does that sound? Any
recommendations?
Mike
