My problem is definitely worse in the evenings too. I've suspected
something to do with lights. Have you tried turning on all the same lights
during the day? Also I've wondered about the television (also on cable); it
tends to be operating at night more frequently than during the day. (I've
not tested this theory, though.)

I wish I had known you had dimmers before, Mary.
I'd suspect the dimmer(s) for the following reasons ...
The dimmers operate by "chopping" the alternating current waveform in such a
way that very high frequency harmonics are generated.
Those harmonics may be so very high in frequency that they can pass right
through the RFI (radio frequency interference) filter in your monitor.
This RFI filter is intended (and required) to prevent high frequencies
generated inside the monitor from getting out and causing grief to other
components, primarily radios and TV sets.
But, of that RFI filter is not good enough, then the exogenous (outside)
interference, as from the dimmers, can indeed get inside the monitor and
cause some major grief.
This RFI filter is not intended (nor required) to prevent outside
interference from getting into your monitor.
Hence, your monitor may be susceptible to this interference from the dimmers,
and that could be the "root cause" of your problem.
Usually, dimmers which are on Max have little "chopping" effects, whereas
dimmers which are on Min have maximum "chopping" effects.
Try operating without lights which are on these dimmers and report back if
any improvement ... or if there is no improvement.
Peter.
