Hello,
Last night after getting into bed, I reached down and pulled the phone
cord out of the computer line. I left the phone connected to the phone
line. I've been using my computer for a half hour and I haven't seen any
lines on the monitor other than the two lines caused by the damper wires.
There's just one thing... for a little while I had the Commodore64
connected to the computer line through an old external PC modem and the 6100
connected to the phone(the one we use for voice) to transfer some programs
that I got on the internet to my C64. The computer line goes from the jack,
to the surge protector that my G4 and 6100 are also plugged into, out of the
surge protector to my C64's modem, which has its own power supply but I
always leave that power supply unplugged when I'm not using it because its
really old and I don't trust it that much. The G4 wasn't even plugged into
the computer line.
As for the cable modem. I have it on a router. It goes like this....
the cable goes to the cable modem, the Ethernet out on the modem goes into
the WAN port on the Xrouter Pro, the Xrouter Pro has 4 out puts, one to the
Dell P2, one to the Dell P4, one to the Apple LaserWriter 16/600, and one to
an extra hub. From the extra hub, one goes to the 6100, one to the Packard
Bell(AKA: Crapard Bell), and one to the G4.
I must mention that the only time I've actually noticed the lines has been
in the evenings. This may either be because the problem only happens in the
evenings or that I just haven't used it enough outside of the evenings to
notice it then.
Last night I tried unplugging the VCR but it didn't make the lines go away,
right now, I have the VCR plugged in the same way I had it plugged in last
night and I'm not having any problem with the monitor right now. My monitor
is plugged into the power output on the G4, and the 6100's monitor is
plugged into the power output on the 6100.
I'm going to read that information on Ground loops later today when I get
the time(I have homework I have to get to doing) and If later tonight I
don't see the lines I'm going to plug the computer line back in to see if
the lines come back.
