By that argument, Chevys and Cadillacs should be the same -- and you 
wouldn't be able to complain if your Cadillac dealer gave you a Chevy, 
Pontiac, Buick, or Olds.

If the drive said Quantum mechanism, that's what you'd expect. If it said 
Maxtor, that's what you'd expect. Since the drive was clearly marked 
Quantum and the box said Maxtor, not Quantum, you could claim fraud -- 
especially since Maxtor knew exactly what they were putting in the box, 
as indicated by the errata sheet.

I'm also happy to hear that Maxtor is doing right by you.
