Mac On Linux (MOL) is a run time environment that allows a person to install the Mac OS on a machine running PPC Linux. VMWare provides a similar environment on X86 Linux, allowing one to install Windows on a Linux machine. Wine provides a set of Win32 APIs, that run Windows applications with out the need to have Windows installed. In most respects Wine attempts to run Windows software in a way very similar to running the Classic Environment on OS X. For the Wine developer that has to be like trying to shoot a moving target. Open Source software is sold on the basis of what you know rather than what you own. Lindows single big feature is their "click and run" auto software installer. You get a years subscription to this. With "click and run" you can freely install any software from their click and run library for one year. Xiam offers a similar feature that is available with other Linux distributions. SuSE is making a big push into offering a similar ready to go desktop environment for corporate desktops. This perhaps has little to do with the Mac, but is does point out a growing trend. Computers, operating systems and productive applications are being bundled together to provide a complete solution to user needs. Mac OS X is bundled with a number of applications designed to enhance their image as "the digital hub" and provide some solid productivity right out of the box. bill -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
