Problems with freezes or with something else? Does L2CacheConfig allow you to set the cache speed? I'm using PowerLogix Cache Control X (CCX) 1.2, which does. I have it set to a 5:2 ratio, which works out to 220 MHz. The slowest option is 183 at 3:1. The next higher is 274 at 2:1.
PowerLogix provides a readme which includes this caution: "Warning: This software allows the user to set an L2 cache speed that might be too fast for the hardware to handle. This will result in a crash. Read the installation instructions that came with your processor card to determine the fastest safe speed. If you use this on an Apple PowerMac in general 2.0 is the fastest allowable setting, but sometimes 3.0 is the fastest. Proceed at your own risk." It may well be the case that it isn't the cache-enabling kernel extension, per se, that's causing the problem, but the cache speed and timing. Perhaps one of these two situations are what's happening when certain software locks up the system: 1) The software uses (or causes the system to use) L2 cache so heavily that, if the cache has been "overclocked", the processor will freeze. 2) The software uses (or causes the system to use) L2 cache so rapidly that, if the cache has been "underclocked", the processor will freeze. I think I'll de-install CCX 1.2 and install 2.1b4 over the w/e, as it officially (in a beta sort of way) supports 10.2. Then I'll try running at 2:1 and 3:1 and see if either make any difference.
