Yes. I briefly wondered if OS X might make more use of the cache that 
OS 9, but then I remembered how incredibly slow my 8500 G3 was with OS 
9 and cache disabled. More likely, it's a timing thing. That's a common 
explanation for why OS X is fussier about memory, so it probably true 
of cache, as well.
