G'day from Oz, all

I've got 2 jag problems I'd like to check out if anyone could please.

This first ones easy, and lost me a months worth of netscape eMail when
I though I was backing up.

1. Make a new folder on your desktop.

2. Make 2 duplicates of an item, and drag the first dup. into the
folder.

3. Rename them both the same.

4. Drag the second into the folder, and ignore the 'replace' dialog

5. Drag the greyed out second image into the folder again

6. Click both 'replace' buttons.

7. What the hell happens?

The second is more complex, and I've been working on it for a month. No
response from Apple discussions.

My procedure.

1. Create a new user (from admin or root)

2. Open the users Capabilities.

3. Uncheck 'Open all system preferences'. Check 'Open only these
Applications' (don't bother about anything else)

4. Log on as the user, and open system preferences.

5. Select the desktop utility, and navigate to a folder of piccies (or
the Apple ones).

6. set one. (if it's like my problem, it will be slower than usual)

7. set a second (now mine freezes to a crawl, no picture). Spinning
pizza-wheel-of-death over lots of screen, but not all.

8. I don't get any dock any more, but holding down over the Apple menu
eventually allows me access to the log off. Logging of freezes but.

9. Force-quit is useless.

10. Hardware re-set, & reboot. Log on to new user, but log on freezes.
If left for several minutes, Force-quit may work ONCE.

11. Uncheck 'Open only these Applications' for user, & log on, Desktop
utility works fine. Problem toggles on/off with check/uncheck. Also
moving the last selected picture re-sets to default, & all is well

12 Is this reproducible? Still occurred after a format/install, & an
on-top re-install???

Any thoughts on this please. (RAM checks ok, I've booted with
Space-bar, pulled PCI cards, changed picture privileges etc. etc,
cleared dock preferences, re-built privileges twice in a row)

I've got 3 sticks, 2 x 32@PC66 2.2.2, 1 x 128@PC133 3.3.3

768 PC133 2.2.2 on it's way.

Regards

Santa
