Hi guys... Need your advice. I just got finished giving my beloved Blue and White a makeover...512MB of Kingston CAS=2 100MHz RAM, a 20GB Maxtor hard drive...and I am seriously thinking of putting a firewire card in.
"But the B&W was the first machine to have Firewire!" you say. Why, true, that it was, and therein lies the problem. The OPTI firewire controller is notorious for being weak and prone to data corruption. So even though the machine technically HAS Firewire, it's not trustworthy. I have 9.1 in there now, (I had 8.5.1 on the stock 6GB that came on the machine originally) and am looking at either a dual boot between that and Yellow Dog Linux or maybe throwing caution to the wind and going at least partially with Jagwire. My friends say that now that I have half a gig of RAM Jagwire is doable. However, first things first, and that first thing means firewire. Fire! Wire! as Beavis would say. Who makes a reliable, inexpensive FW card that 9.1 will recognize? I want to use FW for CD-R burning. I have a DVD drive in the machine and I want to keep it that way. What say ye? -.\\<-H- -- Michelle Klein-Hass Box 2273, Van Nuys, CA 91404-2273 Spam me and you pay!
