That's a diplomatic way of putting it. I have my theories about what OEM means, but I don't have the time. In only 3.5 years of playing with computers, it's been a wild ride on the ol'learning curve. Apple still tries to innovate, and even to reach out to the Open Source crowd with its KDE-style Safari (I'm using it now), but no Java (neither in Chimera, any version). Somebody on alt.hackintosh last night wrote that M$ is about teaching only the 'use' of software and that in a brain-washing sort of way - as opposed to teaching the nuts and bolts (more work, sure, but the rewards for the economy as a whole - Japan, for e.g., now has the world's most powerful supercomputer - are immense). But it's quite a coincidence, isn't it? Steve Jobs comes back from exile and introduces a Unix-based OS just as the Open Source group swings into high gear (making M$ squirm). Best George
