FWIW I ran into the same problem, same ACARD AHARD PCI-66 card with a WD
Caviar 20GB 7200RPM drive I bought used. I never thought to check the
compatiblity list but suspect that it is not on it. Oddly, at one point
early on in my testing of various configurations and jumper settings Drive
Setup did find the drive, with internal CD-ROM disconnected and internal
IDE hdd connected. Once I had re-partitioned the drive, which I probably
did on the internal IDE bus, I could never see it on the PCI
controller. OWC tech support suggested that the problem was the ATA-100
hdd and the ATA-66 controller, e.g., the controller was not fast enough to
see the drive, which contradicts statements of forward and backward
compatibility that I read elsewhere. I ended up exchanging for a SIIG
Ultra ATA-133 card, rather than get another drive. It looked like the same
problem was happening with the SIIG until, as I recall, I again
disconnected the CD-ROM until the hdd was detected (as a SCSI drive),
partitioned and initialized. All is fine now. I have no means of testing
the performance of the drive on the SIIG, but the drive is quiet and
operations generally appear to be reasonably quick and competent on the
otherwise stock G3/233MHz/192GB.
