What Ultra SCSI card are you using?
The one that came with the machine.
Hmm, you should be OK then ... but that doesn't mean you still can't have a hiccup.
As I see it, you have to put back an IDE drive , connected to the motherboard and install X on that drive.
If you try what Albert recommends (removing the SCSI card and installing X on an IDE drive) know that can later copy everything over to the SCSI card with Carbon Copy Cloner. In other words it's possible that the installer might not like your SCSI card (I know, I know, it should) but that OS X will.
Is the HD the only SCSI device you have connected to the cards?
Yes
Have you verified the termination is correct?
I don't know how to do this.
Either check the documentation that came with the drive or check that drive model's info at the manufacturer's web site. Or, you may be able to take a look at the jumpers and verify that there's a jumper on the "TE" pins or whatever they may be called for your drive.
