As we all no doubt know, Apple basically killed off all of the PCI powermacs with the release of OS X (and 9.2 for that matter, but who's counting?)

Stunningly, my PCI Mac survived the massacre, and kept running. 8-0

As the owner of a B&W G3, I must admit that I am a little concerned. It appears that Panther, though having 64-bit features, will still run on just about anything that will natively run 10.2.

Panther does NOT have any 64-bit features. Panther is a 32-bit OS; 64-bit-ness is planned for a future release. IAC, it will likely be a dual platform system for a while, much like the transition between PowerPC and 68K.

Also, has anyone heard if there are any new, unexpected, system requirements to run Panther? I plan on being an early adopter, and I will be sure to let everyone who is not so cavalier about upgrading know of my experiences, positive or negative.

I believe that Beige support in Panther is out...not unexpectedly; the beige machines are getting long in the tooth. More than likely that wizard of OS'es Ryan Rempel will be able to shoehorn Panther onto unsupported systems like he has OSX..
