My coworkers have the same problem when I email them files. If I save to a disk, they can open them. But when I email a file, it gets sent in two pieces. Only one of the pieces actually works. It also seems to make a difference how they have their PCs configured to handle attachments because some have no problems opening my documents.

Part of the problem with the troubleshooting so far is that I've only been working with Office XP on her machine, and I've not been there yet in person, just emailed files over;
