I hate giving out my SSN, but I think it may be legit. My Uncle Rudy won and iMac under similar circumstances and they asked for his SSN too. He did confirm that he gave them his SSN and also confirmed when he received his prize.
Heck, for the right cost I can find out your SSN on the web. I'd do it for an iPod...
