I did this with a FireWire CD-RW and disabled the Apple Authoring Support
extensions, (Apple Authoring Support & Firewire Authoring Support) but not
the Apple CD/DVD Driver.

Ah yes, good memory jog! Thx! I'd forgotten about Toast's annoying compatibility issues! My notes say Toast is *incompatible* with a number of Apple's extensions (per Roxio's web site). To use it, you must disable these:
Authoring Support
Disc Burner Extension
FireWire Authoring Support
iTunes Extension
SDAP Authoring Support
USB Authoring Support
