If you'd been paying attention for the last twoyears, you would know that you can't just stick crap in a machine before installing OS X and expect it to install. Like trying to put Toyota parts in a Cadillac engine and expecting it to run.....,
You need better ram for OS X (like my wife's car needs 93 octane gas) naturally and I have over a gig in the 9600. USB cards can be fine and video cards as well. Everyone knows that Mac Radeon cards are fully compatible.
So, Adaptec, Radeon, etc. make "crap?"
Who said that?
ClubMac sells inferior/defective memory?
Nobody said 'defective.' But there ARE different 'speeds.'
Pioneer makes crummy drives?
I have a Panasonic DVD drive in my 9600.....
There's no junk in or attached to this
G-4. When a relative loaned me her iMac OS-X (10.1) software install disk
months ago it installed X on my external hard drive no problem (the drive
died later of unnatural causes) and it could boot from that drive if I
wanted. Nothing on this G-4 was any different then than it is now.
A good friend of mine has had OSX on his first gen G4 since it was in beta form.... Runs GREAT.
I didn't
much care for X then, but lately I wanted to try newer versions of iMovie
and it requires it. The 10.2 installer is obviously another step backward.
LOL!!!!
It was EASY and runs GREAT. My son plays first person shooter online games on it with no crashes.
If you got OS X to run on some old box, good for you. You don't know how
lucky you are.
Apple itself probably made better hardware back then. I wasLOL again! :)) Microsloth is no competition. Merely a bad carbon copy following long after the Mac OS....
rather disgusted with the cheap, minimal, generic little manual that came
with this G-4 (I remember the model-specific thick, slick, heavy, high
quality publications, practically books, that came with the old Macs), and
it probably indicates the quality of the whole package. OS-X is another
disappointment. Having to compete with Microsoft to survive
Seriously, Tom. It sounds like you are having a bad day. It was hard for me to leave OS 9 (I didn't do it until 10.2 came out) thinking that there was no software for it. The abundance and stability I am finding is amazing. Take a deep breath, remove any hardware that didn't come stock in the G4, install OS X, and reinstall your hardware. It's that simple.....
