I wouldn't upgrade the beige G3 to a G4. I have had 2 beige G3's and 
because of the many funky issues the beige G3's  have I never did any 
CPU upgrades. It just wasn't worth it to me. I bought a B&W for the 
cost of upgrading my beige and I'm so much more satisfied.

Personally I would rather upgrade a 9600 than a beige G3.
