What's a "prosumer" device? And, about Firewire, do I really need it,

Consumer products that incorporate features of the professional models. Targeted at the serious hobbyist, rather than the casual user. Firewire is excellent technology for external devices (HD,s CD & DVD players/burners, etc.). Useful technology for a lot of external devices.

Understood. But just one thing. How come, if you know, Apple still called
the B&W a G3 when it was more advanced than the Beige and also required a
higher OS to run? That's really confusing of them.
The G3 is the designation of the actual CPU chip. The G3 first came out at slow speeds MHz then remained in use up to speeds of 900 MHz. The G3 was replaced by the G4, which was followed by the G5. It's the same in the wintel world, Pentium, Pentium II, Opteron, Celeron, etc., etc., The G3 just designates the CPU used.
