Not at all. Your AppleTalk and TCP/IP cps can be set to the same or different hardware interfaces. For example you can have AppleTalk set to LocalTalk or Ethernet for local access to a printer and TCP/IP can be set to Remote Access/PPP for a dialup connection to the Internet.
