For the first time in a long time, I am using Mac OS 9. I'm using a G3-233 which is equivallent to the Mac I used when I previously used Mac OS 9 as my main OS, then an 8600 upgraded to 400MHz G3 (Formac card), and I think OS 9 is.... SHIT!!
I can safely say that I am 100% OS X.
I hate Windows (more than some of you will ever imagine), but I now realise that I actually dislike OS 9 too.
Anyone on this list who is still running OS 9 in some fear or disliking of the look of OS X I have one thing to say:
You're mad!!!!
A bit like no sex before marriage, why wait ?!
Who cares that Aqua eates resources, I have GHz of speed and GBs of RAM and I'm HAPPY!!!
OS 9 is dead, at least here!!!
I disagree completely. Anyone who actually uses his Mac to *work* knows that it cannot be done in OS X. We even timed it. We do a lot of pre-press for a lot of magazines with few people and we have a lot of deadlines, meaning we have to work *fast* and cannot afford to wait. In a period of time we upgraded all Macs to the latest Panther version at that time and continued to work. Although we all were experienced OS X users already, I started with OS X beta, but the same work took two hours longer only because we had to wait before the OS was done doing it's things like refreshing screens, spinning beachball etcetera etcetera. It's sooo slow compared to previous OS's. You had to hear the shouting and yelling to believe me.
Ok I like OS X because it's more up-to-date by today's standard and easier to integrate in a Windows environment f.e. I can use OS X for my home server with several Macs and PCs, although I could do it with an older OS aswell, only with some extra software installed.
And it's nice to use it on my old iBook which I'm using now although not that fast.
I played with a new G5 two months ago and still wasn't impressed by the speed increase. I cannot imagine how fast it would run on un older OS, unfortunately that cannot be done.
A collegue of mine has a small home business aswell and since he agrees that
OS 9 is much faster to do work he's thinking of getting the last G4 which can dualboot OS 9 and OS X, just so he can use OS 9.
Too bad that more and more magazines are starting to use Indesign which only runs at OS X so that we're forced to use OS X. Meaning we have to get more people and Mac's to get the same work done...
It's nice to see you'll switchers liking OS X to do some websurfing and such, but you have no idea how slow it is when you're actually using it to get some work done.
/end of rambling.
