i doubt that there will be that much of a problem with the new intel mac's.

they are changing back to an intel chip from a powerpc chip after changing from a intel chip.

hardware has been pretty compatible between mac and windows os machines... ie hard drives, cd/dvd, keyboards, mice, ipods, etc.

the question arises when people go to use a windows os (xp, vista) on the new intel macs... what sort of protection are they going to take to prevent spyware/virus problems?

is that going to change between rev a and rev b? i don't know how it could.

will i buy one during rev a? probably... i would like to see what there is to offer between the ibook and powerbook when they are released before i make a new purchase, since i do currently own an aluminum powerbook. my daughter, my son, and wife all have g4 ibooks and we have found them to be adequate.

i currently use a rev a pb12 aluminum since it was first released in march '03. i have had no problems at all with it. i had no problems with my lombard 333mhz or 400mhz when i bought them when they were rev a's in may '99. i bought a rev a ipod, and of course, i also bought a rev a 128k mac back in '84. talk about new technology issues. oh yeah, it still runs. i did have to replace a power supply about 2 years ago, but it works! even after i had updated it to a 1 meg mac, with a whop'n 10meg external hard drive. but my old imagewriter died...

but if you look at different machines (apple and windows based) and you will see that some have had problems with the equipment. look at the current pb15, it has a monitor issue. other brand machines are having battery issues among other problems.

its my opinion (as a long time mac user who also uses windows machines heavily at work) is smart usage of windows if it is installed on the new intel macs. by this i mean watch what you download and how you protect the machine from virus/spyware issues as well as normal network security.

depending on the needs of the original poster's daughter, the intel ibook could be just fine for her. depending on the software she is using, she could get along just fine with the software that comes with the ibook. i wouldn't let the fact of it being a rev a model bother you. i don't see apple releasing something that doesn't work at all.

my thoughts and opinions.
