Good Man! Spoken like a _true member_ of a Low End Mac list. [grins, gives
"thumbs up" sign]

[bursts into chanting] "Use it up; wear it out. Make do, or do without...
it's the LEM way!"

Sorry...

By "dual-boot," do you mean the new iBooks are supposed to have the ability
to boot in both OS X and Windows? Or is this wishful thinking on your part?
I just wanted to clarify. [wrings hands]

Yes, I'm assuming it will run on any of the two, from two separate partitions. Someone should be already working on that.

Admittedly, I'm not following the Intel iBook as closely as I should. I'm
afraid I've developed a penchant for letting other people deal with any sort
of "bleeding edge" mess ^dub^dub^dub uh...I mean: "I have only the greatest
respect for early adopters!"

Actually, that's what I was going to ask before I saw your latest post: what
is she doing with the machine that her current 500MHz setup isn't fast
enough? For most basic student-type tasks, (email, browsing, word
processing) I would think that 500MHz would be adequate. I know that the
new "$100 laptop" prototype unveiled at the WSIS is rated at that speed:

http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories/story.cfm?story=95959&ran=67964

I'm sure that if it were *too* slow, Nicholas Negroponte (the designer)
would be charged with child abuse. ¬_¬

Well, she loves the idea of being a college girl carrying around her portable, and I suppose it is useful too. And it has to be a Mac. She loves Mac more than I ever did. And I was a hard core Mac user until they switched to OSX. I suggested a Wintel laptop and it was the same as if I had suggested a Lyra instead of an iPod.

Of course, someone also said that 640K of memory "ought to be enough for
anybody," too.

Best regards.
