Hello and thanks to all for the useful information.

I'll try to convince her to keep her iMac for her fresh/man/woman/person semester. I believe a dual-boot iBook is the way to go, as in the future she may require Wintel software.

I doubt she'll use more than the basic built-in functionality of OSX, plus Office (academic edition). No big deal.
