Rosetta is more like the old 68K Emulator in OS 8 than it is like Virtual PC.

My understanding is that the emulator was introduced in System 7 for the first PPCs, and that it continued into OS 9 as some parts of the system weren't ever ported to PPC. Either way, I know it's still there in classic, since I can run original versions of MacDraw, MacWrite, and MacPaint on my PowerBook. :)

As for Windows, Apple doesn't care they've sold you the computer. MS doesn't care, they've sold you the Windows. No one's likely to prevent Windows from running on a Mac.

The downside of that is that some developers may just say: "dual boot to use our product". Projects like WINE <http://darwine.opendarwin.org/> may help that, too, by allowing Windows programs to run under OS X, not as part of a dual boot system, but this doesn't work for all Windows programs.

But we're still going to be fighting and nagging developers to make Mac versions of their software.

This is the only part of the Intel transition that concerns me. I don't own a PC. I'm not interested in owning or running Windows. I have Virtual PC for the geek inside of me... to be able to run NeXTSTEP, Linux, and other x86 OSes. If the Intel switch causes developers to rethink their commitment to the Mac OS, we are in real trouble. I sure hope that concern is for naught.... for I will NOT run Windows for anything. Period. Microsoft = OK. (For example, Mac Office & RDC are great!) Windows = bad.
