I
think it's great that you're wringing out your older hardware, but giving
someone a hard time when they've already taken the time and trouble to
affect the transition is just plain bizarre.>

With all due respect -- if my memory is failing me and David Elmo DOES
like OS X, then yeah, I'd have to agree with you on this one -- and I
wouldn't have even THOUGHT to make a suggestion like that. But as I
recall it, he was complaining about OS X and saying there was just way
too much he "missed" about OS 9 and didn't like about X. So, what's so
"bizarre" about suggesting to someone who's tried an OS he finds he
doesn't like as much as his prior one, that he go back to the one he
likes? Shouldn't we all be comfortable with the computers we use? Isn't
that also one reason why people upgrade, i.e., they think their systems
are too slow for their comfort, so they put in more RAM and/or faster
processors -- or they outright buy faster Macs that come with the
"better" stuff? Yeah, it might be a little unusual, in general, to
suggest that someone downgrade, but if someone tries something and
doesn't like it, why keep using it?

<If you haven't actually used it, doesn't that put you at a disadvantage
when
it comes to suggesting what he should or shouldn't be running? ¬_¬>

Well, HE has used it, and it seems to me that if he doesn't like it as
the result of his own personal experience, from my standpoint it makes
sense for him to go back to what he does like. And besides, he's still
free to ignore my suggestion. ;-)

As to luxuries, IMHO it's more of a luxury to blow bucks on a new
computer, new peripherals and a new OS than it is to keep old functioning
equipment running as long as possible.
