Perhaps. Sometimes. To some of us, the power and desk space savings are paramount or at least desilu (LCD wins). To some of us the color reproduction and response time (speed) are more important (CRT wins). And some of us just don't care because we feed our low-end-macs hardware bought off LEM Swap and eBay for dirt cheap.

Then paid out the wazoo for shipping....

eBay has a gizmo that lets you limit the search to x miles away. I've been using that a lot!

The 30" $2500 Apple Cinema display

It's color reproduction, tho, seems only a bit better than the 4yro 21" ViewSonic monitor I just gave to a client for $50.

Just HOW much did that 21" CRT go for when it was new,

$450, current price. Down from about $550.

and how much did they go for years ago when LCD's weren't competing? No fair comparing new apples to used sneakers...

This isn't years ago. This is now. This is comparing a 4yro piece of equipment to a brand new one - and the older is better.

And you leave my sneakers out of it! I know they're ratty, but they're *comfortable*!

LCD's are not at the top of their cost scale any more, certainly, and I expect them to come screaming down pretty fast...making 37" LCD panels for TV's certainly helps you make 20" ones for PCs a lot cheaper.

Well, when they hit <$200 and their quality is equal to or superior to that $50 used monitor *maybe* I'll consider 'em useful. :)

Did we talk about life expectancy? And the little detail that the MTBF for that used monitor still leaves it with more life than the new LCD? So now you're talking about one $50 CRT vs *two* $2500 LCDs.
